Emergency Food Support During Federal Shutdown
As we head into the holiday season, we know how uncertain life feels for families already living on the edge. With the federal government shutdown now halting CalFresh (SNAP) benefits for November, the ripple effects are already being felt across our community.
At the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank, we are committed to staying grounded in facts, calm in delivery, and compassionate in service.

Here’s What We Know:
CalFresh Benefits Have Been Paused: November benefits will not be issued unless the federal government reopens. Clients can still use any existing funds on their EBT cards.
USDA Food Assistance Will Continue: TEFAP and Senior Boxes are confirmed to continue for the next few months.
We Are Already Seeing Increased Demand: In the last week, we’ve gone from serving 90 families per day to over 100, and plan to see that increase to 150 a day similar to the peak of the pandemic.

How We're Responding:
We Have Food, But Staples Are Running Low: Thanks to a phenomenal fall food drive, we have inventory—but we’re already out of key staples like cereal, peanut butter, and ramen.
We Will Not Be Expanding Distributions: Our systems remain in place and we are doing everything we can to stretch our resources to serve as many as possible.
We Are Prepared and Steady: Our systems are strong, our team is ready, and we’re working hard to make sure no one is turned away.

How You Can Help:
Bring Us Food - Most needed items include:
Peanut butter
Cereal
Pasta
Pasta sauce
Ramen
*(No canned veggies needed—we are stocked!)
Drop Off Grocery Bags: We are in desperate need of reusable or plastic grocery bags for distributions.
Volunteer: We’re always welcoming volunteers! Sign up at ovfofb.org/volunteer
Give Financially: Donations help us order exactly what’s most needed. ovfofb.org/donate

If you or someone you know is in need of food assistance:
We serve Orangevale, Fair Oaks, Folsom, and Citrus Heights residents.
Our food assistance is available two times per month; once between the 1st through 15th and again between the 16th and the end of the month.
If you are in need of food assistance outside of our service area, visit https://www.sacramentofoodbank.org/find-food or Call 2-1-1 to find a pantry near you.
We’ll continue to monitor updates from the state and federal level and will keep you informed. Please share this message, donate if you can, and above all, continue being the incredible community we know and love.
With deep gratitude ❤️ - Andrea & The OVFO Food Bank Team
