ABOUT US
We exist to share God’s love in our community by providing food, resources, and hope to families in need.

Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank

As an organization, we make a positive impact in the communities of Orangevale and Fair Oaks by providing food, resources, and hope to families in need. We also strive to facilitate participation from people within our community to help improve the lives of families in need through community outreach events, volunteering, food drives, and connecting people through a common purpose.

The Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank was formed by several members of the community who worked diligently to lay the groundwork for a local food bank and family resource center. In our current economy, several hundred families struggle each month to provide basic food for their families. We rally behind these families to help them through a difficult time. The Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank exists to bridge the gap for those families, and provide assistance temporarily while they work toward meeting these needs on their own.

Our Programs

Our main program as a food bank is to provide groceries and fresh food to our neighbors in need. Recipients from Sacramento County may come two times per month, one time during the 1st through 15th, and one time during the 16th through the end of the month, if needed, to receive groceries.  We are part of the Sacramento Food Bank network, the two times per month is for any food bank visit in the area. In addition to this program, we also offer several other community outreaches throughout the year.

We also offer CSFP food boxes for seniors 60 and older and we are apart of the National Diaper Bank.  Please ask at our distributions for more information on these programs.

We rely on a 100% volunteer staff and generous donations from local businesses, churches, and families in our community to make this happen.

 Healthy Groceries Program

Several local grocery stores donate their meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and bread each week. Our volunteers sort through and organize these donations to distribute at one of our weekly outreaches. Through community food drives, many of our non-perishable items are collected and also organized to distribute at these outreaches. Due to only handing out donated food, we never know what we’ll have each week but do our best to have items in each category for our clients so they are able to prepare well-balanced, nutritional meals.

Harvest Program

Do you have trees that need to be harvested? We have a program where we will bring a team to your location (in Fair Oaks and Orangevale), harvest your trees, and then the fruit will be donated to the food bank to hand out to our clients.

Please fill out this INTEREST FORM and we will contact you about your needs.

Mobile Distribution Trailer

We were gifted a trailer in the summer of 2019 that has enabled us to take our distribution site on the road.  The trailer has been fitted with a fridge and freezer unit that runs on a generator when we’re off site and can be plugged in when at the Main Avenue location.  We are excited about the opportunity to reach more people in need.

We do not have any current mobile distributions at this time.
In the past, we were able to use it for our Food For Thought program to help feed people at local schools during the summertime
and at New Life Church for Saturday distributions with the help of Fair Oaks Rotary.

Food Bank Farm

Starting in 2020, our team was able to utilize the one acre of land next to the food bank on Main Street to start the Food Bank Farm.  This farm produces different crops year round that will be available for purchase through a subscription program as well as donating half of what is grown to be handed out to clients at the food bank. Part of our mission is to make sure families have fresh, healthy foods on their table.  If you are interested in helping out with work days or learning more, please visit the farm website at foodbank.farm.

We desire that every family has a great Thanksgiving

Every year, we partner with many organizations in the area to provide hundreds of families with everything they need to make a Thanksgiving dinner. We are always looking for volunteers and donors to help us pull off this annual event.

Back to School Partnership with AboutKidz

Every child deserves a special first day of school. In 2014, we launched a new partnership with AboutKidz to help provide school lunches to hundreds of children at their FirstDay Back to School late summer event. This is an annual partnership that we plan to continue for many years to come.
